Fittings not only shape the look of your shower enclosure, but are also responsible for much more!

Fittings are decisive for the lifespan of the glass shower and are therefore the decisive detail for the price/performance assessment. But this is also the crux: On photos or in exhibitions, the quality of the fittings (and therefore the lifespan) cannot be determined at all or only to a limited extent. With this blog post, we therefore want to shed some light on what needs to be considered

But where does the term “fitting” actually come from?

Fittings, hinges, hinges, brackets and tabs are all names for metallic connections on our glass showers. The umbrella term “fitting” comes from the past. If you look at very old doors, you see how the hinges on the wooden door were attached with a hammer and nail, i.e. “fog up”. Hinges or bands describe the movable attachments, the pivot and pivot points. Angles and straps are used for rigid mounting.

But now back to the present: In order to make a decision as to which fitting is the right one for the shower, the question must first be answered in which direction the door should open. We generally differentiate between swing and swing doors. Revolving doors open in one direction, e.g. 180° outwards. They are characterized by an extremely delicate and easy-to-clean design. Revolving doors are particularly suitable for large bathrooms, as the door element can be opened outwards and therefore takes up a lot of space.

In contrast, swing doors open inwards and outwards, usually 90° in both directions. They therefore offer maximum freedom of entry with minimal space requirements. Swing doors also have other very practical and user-friendly advantages, such as easy ventilation of the shower area. In addition, incorrect operation is avoided and the dripping water remains within the shower when opened.

In addition to the various door systems, there are also different locking systems. The lift/lower mechanism is particularly noteworthy here. As a result, the shower door is slightly raised when opened. As a result, it is easier to move, as the lower seal does not grind on the shower tray or tiles.

Another important decision criterion is the installation of the fittings, because daily cleaning must be very easy. The solution for this is flush with the surface on the inside.

In this case, the hinges are fixed flush with the inside of the glasses by means of a conical recess. That way, we don't need a minute for daily deductions. Sounds logical, but why are there still hinges that are not flush? The answer here is on the technical side, because technology requires space and this is limited when it comes to flush-mounted hinges. If, for example, requirements such as an adjustable zero position or spring mechanisms are required, the appropriately equipped hinges are used.

But decisions have to be made not only with regard to technical functionality: There are also a variety of materials and shapes that are suitable for shower fittings. Griesshaber fittings are made of solid brass and then finished to a high standard. Whether shiny gold, matt black or classic chrome-plated, square, round or as a handrail, the list of variants is long.

Finally, it remains to be said that all variants have their right to exist. There is the perfect fitting for every bathroom and shower area. Due to our specialization in custom-made shower enclosures, the variety of our fittings is wide. And should the right thing not be in stock, fittings can also be custom-made. Our aim is an easy-to-clean and durable shower enclosure, no matter how your bathroom or shower area is designed!
